Recreational Marijuana - With Dope There's Hope - With Booze You Lose

"Our youth can not understand why society chooses to criminalize a
behavior with so little visible ill effect or adverse social impact...
These young people have jumped the fence and found no cliff.
And the disrespect for the possession laws fosters a disrespect for laws and the system in general... On top of this is the distinct impression among the youth that some police may use the marihuana laws to arrest people they
don't like for other reasons, whether it be their politics, their hair
style or their ethnic background."

"Federal and state laws (should) be changed to no longer make it a crime to possess marijuana for private use."
"State laws should make the public use of marijuana a criminal offense punishable by a $100 fine. Under federal law, marijuana smoked in public would merely be subject to seizure."
-Richard Nixon's rejected Commission on Marihuana 1972

The GateWay Lie Was Long in Coming

During the House hearings in the Ways and Means Committee that
led to the passing of the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, Rep. Dingell asked
the Commissioner of the newly created Narcotics Bureau:

"I was just wondering whether the Marihuana addict graduates into heroin,
an opium, or a cocaine user?"

Harry Anslinger's reply:

"No, Sir. I have not heard of a single case of that kind. I think it is an entirely different class. The Marihuana addict does not go in that direction."

Eighteen years later, in answer to a like question by Senator Price Daniel:

"That is the great problem, and our great concern about the use of
Marihuana is that eventually, if use ovar a long period of time, it
does lead to heroin addiction.

My criminal record was blank. They're holding me because I forgot to dump my bag coming from Mexico, and there was a joint the size of a toothpick. That was a threat to the national security?

A friend of mine who has spent time with the Pygmies says that for such activities as the patient stalking and hunting of mammals
and fish they prepare themselves through marijuana
intoxication, which helps to make the long waits, boring
to anyone further evolved than a Komodo dragon,
at least moderately tolerable.
Ganja is, he says, their only cultivated crop

Worldwide cannabis culture demands an official apology from the UN and world governments, that they acknowledge the war on cannabis and cannabis consumers was a vicious, murderous bigotry with no legitimate social or health concerns whatsoever.

I have long believed that the laws regarding marijuana are too harsh. Those who keep pot for their own personal use
should not be treated as criminals.

Why can't Cokeheads be in the Olympics?       They won't pass the torch.

Later this year I will celebrate 4 decades of recreational
and/or medicinal use of reefer.
Should I say R&D? In that time I have never experienced adulterated pot, one of the prohibitionists dubious claims for hazard.

About 15 years ago during a successful career and copious smokeage, the idea of addiction, or dependency if you will, prompted me to quit. Nine months later having determined that it did not change me personally, and having found a bag in my wife's purse, I fired up again because I enjoyed it. An interesting note, is that one of the conditions of pot use is the theoretical distortion of depth perception and time. During my first week of quit I found my mind to wander and while driving I'd find myself  losing concentration and some control. Conclusion? That one adapts to the alleged distorting effects and later must adapt back. No harm no foul, merely part of the game.

Yeper. forty years of toking. Alienated from phoney friends and ignorant family at times. One aspect was to have earned the suspicion of law enforcement. I do have a great respect for the badge inspite of its stains from prohibition. There is in life good, bad, and then there's the law.

A balance exists though. As aggressive as a small percentage of fascist cops may be, the courts often display intelligence and sanity. The District Attorneys and Judges can be very fair.

With so much rabid reefer madness there are shining examples where some Federal Judges refuse to try Drug Crimes on principle.

There are two kinds of people, those that divide people into two kinds and those that don't' Let us all be one kind people. Myself, I am an Atheist, or a lifeist. Every day is a gift, worshiping all life. Somewhat humorously, yet proudly, I call myself a drug addict as well. Not being unhappy, remorseful or spiritual, I've found Narcotics Anonymous destructive. Looking for answers outside yourself seems a mistake. Addiction woes came from your own misthinking and may only be resolved by reordering the thought processes. I'm thankful to be an addict and not an alcoholic, gambler or Christian. I have the courage of my convictions, and my acquittals.

There is a brotherhood of tokers, an undeniable fellowship. Cannabis use promotes the spirit of fellowship. Gentle, respectful and harmful to no one, yet persecuted. Things don't change much in two thousand years, just the uniforms.

OK. Ok. How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?

Just one. But takes a really long time and the light bulb has to want to change.

Why that stuff [marijuana] should be illegal is beyond me. It's so benign compared to alcohol. When you come right down to it, alcohol destroys your body and makes you do violent things. With grass you sit back and enjoy life. I don't smoke dope anymore. I'm in the 12-step program so I can't do any of that. Anyhow, that's my take on it. People say, 'Well, you shouldn't talk like that. They'll nail ya.' What do I care? I'm not carrying, I don't use. What're they gonna nail me for – talking too much? -- Larry Hagman, star of "Dallas" and "I Dream of Jeannie"

I'm a big fan of Mexican smoke. All Marijuana works. There's an obvious
preference for Indica or KB (Kind Bud).

Schools nowadays are run like prisons with lockdowns, contraband searches, pee tests and even metal dectectors. High Schools, like Northwest in Jefferson County, Missouri, are even built from prison plans. The students should get used to it, our rate of incarceration ( the word comes from Carcer, the name of ancient Rome's main prison) is five times the rate it should be with a quater of the world's prison and jail population and still growing. It's not about any kind of justice in many states, it's an industry, with privately run prisons being erected rapidly. One of three counties in these united states have a prison, with the exception of Florida with 3 of 4 containing one. A native Californian of 37 years ( you can have my share ) it is heartening to see that Florida has eclipsed it as the strangest state.

I'm for legalizing marijuana. Why pick on those drugs? Valium is legal. You just go to a doctor and get it and overdose on it what's the difference? Prozac, all that stuff, so why not marijuana?
Who cares? It's something that grows out of the ground - why not? Go smoke a head of cabbage. I don't care what you smoke.

I say we legalize drugs, strip them of their outlaw glamour so kids aren't as attracted to them, regulate their price so they're no longer a viable commodity for the disenfranchised, tax the shit out of them, and give all of us a kick-back that we can then spend on cigarettes, booze and coffee.

Look, I have nothing to hide, weed is much, much less dangerous than alcohol. Alcohol can have a tendency to make people aggressive, alcohol is a big killer. It’s pretty rare that you hear of a car accident happening because a guy is stoned. Or a guy went out and started a huge fight because he had one too many puffs on a joint.
